How to use Compress PDF to 1 MB
- Drop your PDF into the box, or click it to choose one.
- Click Compress PDF. The tool tries several settings and keeps the best one under 1 MB.
- Download your smaller PDF, ready to upload or email.
Why 1 MB is a useful target
Upload portals for jobs, tenders, competitions and public services often cap documents at 1 MB. Company email systems may also block or delay large attachments. A PDF under 1 MB uploads in seconds, opens quickly on any device and is unlikely to be rejected.
Quality at 1 MB
For most documents, 1 MB leaves plenty of room. Text stays perfectly sharp and photos keep good quality, often enough for printing. Very large files, such as image-heavy brochures or long scanned archives, are reduced as gently as possible to fit.
Working with very large PDFs
- Files up to 50 MB can be uploaded. Image-heavy PDFs often shrink by 90 percent or more.
- If it cannot reach 1 MB, you still get the smallest version we could make. Split it into parts with Split PDF if the portal allows several files.
- Prefer a quality setting instead of a size? The main Compress PDF tool has three compression levels.
Sending by email
Attachments grow by about a third when sent by email, because of how they are encoded. A 1 MB PDF becomes roughly 1.35 MB in transit, comfortably within the 20 to 25 MB limits of Gmail and Outlook.com, and within the stricter limits many workplaces use.
Private by default
Your PDF is processed on our server in a private folder and deleted right after. We never read, share or keep your documents.
